Before the Lashes, There’s Me — Fefe!

Before the lashes, the wig, the rhinestones, the heels, and the microphone — there’s me! Fefe!

I’m Felicia “Fefe” Minor. I have been an entertainer, emcee, and creative in the Phoenix area for nearly two decades.

Most people meet me as a drag entertainer, emcee, or podcast host. Some know me from a Pride event, drag bingo, or community fundraiser. Others know me through my photography, graphic design, marketing work, or the many creative projects I’ve built over the years. What many people don’t realize is that drag is only one part of my story.

At my core, I’m a partner, a parent, a marketer, a creative, and an entertainer. I’ve been married to my husband for nearly 20 years, and our relationship has been one of the most important parts of my life and journey. Together, we’ve built a life centered on love, family, and community.

Professionally, I’m a self-taught marketer with a strong graphic design background who loves helping brands, organizations, and individuals tell their stories in meaningful ways. Creativity has always been a driving force for me, whether I’m developing marketing campaigns, designing visual content, producing podcasts, taking photographs, or creating experiences that bring people together.

As a parent, I’ve learned the value of patience, empathy, and showing up for the people who matter most. As a creative, I’m constantly looking for new ways to connect ideas, tell stories, and make an impact. And as an entertainer, I’ve had the privilege of using drag, hosting, and community events to create spaces where people feel seen, welcomed, and celebrated.

Our story is also closely connected to my journey in the LGBTQ+ community. My husband’s and my very first date included a visit to Wild Card, a former gay bar in Chandler. What started as a night out sparked not only a lasting relationship but also the beginning of my drag career. Looking back, it’s amazing how one evening can change the course of a life.

That’s why I wanted to share this. Not to explain myself, but to introduce myself.

More Than a Performer

When people think about drag, they often focus on the performance, and honestly, I understand why. The costumes are bigger, the makeup is bolder, and the energy is turned all the way up. That’s part of the fun.

But when the show is over, I go home to the same responsibilities, challenges, goals, and dreams as everyone else. I still have deadlines to meet, family obligations to balance, creative projects to finish, and people counting on me.

For nearly two decades, I’ve worked professionally in design, marketing, and communications. I’ve spent my career helping organizations tell their stories, build connections, and reach their audiences. The skills I use on stage aren’t separate from the skills I use in my professional life. They’re deeply connected.

Whether I’m designing a campaign, photographing a client, hosting a podcast or stepping onto a stage, I’m doing the same thing at the core: telling stories, creating connections and trying to leave people with an experience that means something to them.

That commitment to connection also extends to my work with Drag Story Hour. I am proud to be involved with Drag Story Hour Arizona and to support the broader Drag Story Hour movement nationally. Through storytime events, literacy-focused programming and family-friendly community engagement, I’ve had the opportunity to help create welcoming spaces where children and families can celebrate reading, imagination, diversity and self-expression.

For me, Drag Story Hour represents many of the same values that guide my work on stage and off stage: kindness, inclusion, education and community. It’s about meeting people where they are, encouraging curiosity and helping families feel welcome.

Keeping the Community Informed Through Podcasting

One of the projects I’m most proud of is the podcast I’ve co-hosted with my friend Freddy for the past 15 seasons, Live! with Fefe and Freddy.

What started as a conversation between friends grew into a platform dedicated to sharing stories, highlighting community events, and keeping people informed about what’s happening in Arizona’s LGBTQ+ community. Over the years, we’ve interviewed entertainers, advocates, business owners, community leaders and everyday people whose stories deserved to be heard.

Live! with Fefe & Freddy has given us another way to connect with people beyond the stage. While drag allows me to entertain and engage audiences in person, the podcast allows for deeper conversations about issues affecting our community, upcoming events, local organizations, and the people working to make a difference.

For 15 seasons, Freddy and I have remained committed to creating a space where information, education, and community come together. We’ve celebrated milestones, discussed challenges and helped amplify voices that might not otherwise have had a platform. It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch listeners become friends and community members become collaborators.

At its heart, the podcast reflects many of the same values that guide everything else I do: storytelling, connection, visibility and community.

What Drag Means to Me

One of the biggest misconceptions about drag is that it’s about becoming someone you’re not. For me, it’s actually the opposite.

Drag allows me to amplify parts of myself that already exist. It gives me a larger canvas for creativity, humor, confidence and storytelling. It allows me to connect with people in ways that are sometimes unexpected but always meaningful.

When I become Fefe, I won’t hide who I am. I’m expressing who I am in a different way. The makeup comes off, the wig comes off, and the heels definitely come off, but the heart behind it all stays exactly the same.

Drag isn’t a mask that conceals my identity. It’s a creative expression that highlights parts of it.

My involvement with Drag Story Hour Arizona and the national Drag Story Hour network has reinforced that belief. Reading to children and engaging with families isn’t about performance alone—it’s about fostering joy, encouraging literacy and showing young people that creativity and self-expression can be positive forces in their lives. Those experiences have been some of the most meaningful moments of my drag journey.

Why Community Matters

If you’ve followed my journey for any amount of time, you’ve probably noticed a common theme: community.

Everything I do eventually comes back to it. The podcast, the performances, the photography, the events, the conversations, the volunteer work, and the friendships all stem from a belief that people deserve spaces where they feel welcome.

I believe people deserve places where they can show up as themselves without being judged, tested or required to prove who they are. Everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and accepted.

I’ve been fortunate to find those kinds of spaces throughout my life, and I’ve learned how powerful they can be. Sometimes a single conversation can change someone’s day. Sometimes a supportive community can change someone’s life.

That belief is one reason why Drag Story Hour has been so important to me. Through both Drag Story Hour Arizona and the national organization, I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful it can be when families have access to inclusive, welcoming spaces centered around books, learning and community. Those moments of connection matter.

That’s why I continue showing up. Not because it’s always easy or convenient, but because people matter.

For Those Who Are Curious

Maybe you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community. Maybe you’re an ally. Maybe you’re a parent trying to understand your child. Or maybe you’re simply curious about drag and the people behind it.

If that’s you, I’m glad you’re here.

You don’t need to know all the terminology, and you don’t need to have all the answers. You don’t even need to fully understand everything right away. Curiosity is enough.

Questions are welcome. Conversation is welcome. Learning is welcome.

My hope is that people leave with a better understanding of one simple truth: behind every performer is a human being with a story worth hearing.

More Than One Thing

People often know me from one part of my life—drag, design, podcasting, photography work, or community events.

The truth is, all of those things are connected.

Each role reflects a different part of who I am and what I care about: creativity, connection, storytelling and community. None of them tell the whole story on their own, but together they paint a more complete picture.

That includes my work with Drag Story Hour Arizona and my connection to the national Drag Story Hour movement. It’s another example of how my interests in storytelling, education, entertainment and community engagement intersect in meaningful ways.

That’s the person I hope people get to know—not just the performer, the professional or the parent, but the whole person.

Like everyone else, I’m shaped by a mix of experiences, passions and responsibilities, and each one influences how I move through the world and connect with others.

An Open Invitation

If you’ve made it this far, thank you.

Whether you’re a longtime supporter or someone discovering me for the first time, I’m grateful you’re here. My goal has never been simply to build an audience. My goal has always been to build connections, create conversations, make people laugh, help people feel seen, and remind people that authenticity still matters.

So consider this an open invitation. Listen to the podcast. Come to an event. Say hello. Join the conversation.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t really a story about drag. It’s a story about creativity, community, and showing up as your authentic self.

And that’s a story all of us can be part of.

Welcome. I’m Fefe, and I’m glad you’re here.
