In this week’s episode of Live! with Fefe & Freddy, we got into a lot—yes, there was some tea, but also a lot of truth, intention, and celebration of community. We talked about what happens when “influencers” show up to fan spaces for the wrong reasons, unpacked the real meaning of con-sent (you’ll get it), and had not one but TWO fabulous guests join us: Madame Askew and Eve Riot!
Before we get into it, let me tell you—I’ve been booked and blessed. I had the honor of performing at Southwest Love Fest and Majik at Stacy’s at Melrose, and recently returned to Drag Story Hour as a storyteller. I love being in spaces that uplift queer voices, family-friendly spaces where kids can feel safe, seen, and celebrated—and, of course, I love a good mic moment.
Let’s Talk About the Episode
We started things off with the usual dose of shenanigans and gratitude. Freddy shared his recent glow-up moment—producing the Glow Party at SWLF—and somehow ended up being mistaken for a 5-year-old’s grandson (it’s the baby face for me). He also got back to the gym for the first time since the pandemic, and listen, we are proud of him!
I caught y’all up on my weekend, too. Between story hour, playdates, and performing, I’ve been spinning a few plates—but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Just the Tip: A Bad Influence(r)
So, about this so-called review video that went viral recently… Let’s just say, if you’re going to attend a steampunk convention and drag the entire genre for being “outdated,” maybe don’t do it while you’re literally filming strangers without their consent and showing up in a half-hearted cosplay. Steampunk is not dead—it’s diverse, it’s dynamic, and it’s absolutely still thriving.
We broke down her comments, her con behavior, and how influencers with platforms have a responsibility to engage with community spaces respectfully. Especially ones that aren’t about you.
TL;DR: You don’t get to dismiss a culture just because you didn’t bother to understand it.
Guests We Loved
This week we welcomed Madame Askew and Eve Riot, two icons of style, storytelling, and steampunk fabulousness. We talked about creativity, convention culture, and the joy of building welcoming spaces in the community. If you haven’t seen their work—you’re missing out.
