From a very young age, most of us heard “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Over time, as you grow older, you realize that words can hurt. Depending on their magnitude, their delivery and tone, they can slice right through our souls. This slice cuts us leaving us vulnerable and leaving scars that we might carry for the rest of our lives.

Holly Shoemaker’s Sticks and Stones project gives the subjects of each piece is a chance to reclaim the power behind a word that might have left that mark on their lives, that they have carried around forever. On Fri., Sept. 10, join Freddy Prinze Charming and me for the kick-off show at Alwun House. The show, which starts at 8 p.m., features performances from Rusty the Clown, The Showgirl Succubus, The Dahli, Irene Silver, and Trishna Murti.

Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the door. You can purchase your tickets at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sticks-and-stones-tickets-166606660005.
